Some people with freckles get a deep tan to try to hide them?

I don’t think that they necessarily look better or worse, but it is usually more difficult for people with fair freckled skin to get a tan without a great deal of burning. The real problem develops over time, which is photoaging and photodamage due to sun exposure and damage to the underlying structures of the skin. A tan is not worth the damage or the risk of skin cancer.
